Our Story

At HeartBridge Care Services, our journey began not in a corporate office, but in the heart of real, hands-on care.
In 2021, founder Renika J. Smiley began providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, including her first client — an adult with Level 4 Down Syndrome who requires full-time assistance and incontinence support. What started as a part-time caregiving position while completing her undergraduate studies soon became a calling that changed her life.

Through daily care routines, companionship, and advocacy, Renika discovered that caregiving was not just about helping others live with dignity — it was also about connection, healing, and love. Her client became like family, helping her through one of the most difficult seasons of her life.

Between 2018 and 2025, Renika endured profound loss — the passing of her mother, aunts, and other close family members. In those moments of grief, she found purpose in her work, realizing that care is a bridge between hearts. The compassion she poured into others reflected the love she’d received from her family, inspiring the creation of HeartBridge Care Services — a DODD-certified agency built on empathy, purpose, and professionalism.

When Renika was laid off from her corporate Human Resources role in April 2025, she decided to turn her years of leadership experience, certifications, and service into something lasting — a care agency that honors both the caregiver and the client.

Today, HeartBridge Care Services stands as a compassionate and qualified agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Ohio. Certified in Med-K and MedChart, Renika and her team deliver safe, skilled, and heart-centered care to those who need it most.
